Description

When Pierre Charles L'Enfant gazed northward along the banks of the Potomac River in 1791, he envisioned a "pedestal waiting for a monument." Since that day, Washington DC has evolved into a fascinating, lively city. From its celebrated symbols of patriotism to its undiscovered neighborhoods, the sights and sounds of the U.S. capital city inspire millions of visitors every year. Packed with famous sights and many free attractions, Washington DC offers inspiring experiences, year-round.

Double decker tours offer the best tourist experience in Washington DC. Riding the double decker buses, you will be able to have the most visible sights of famous places like Union Station, the US Capitol building, the White House, Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, Roosevelt Memorial, World War II Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, Korean War Memorial, National Cathedral, Air & Space Museum (and any of 17 other amazing museums - some with free entrance from the Smithsonian Foundation).

Your hop on hop off tickets are valid for either 24 or 48 hours - whichever you purchase - giving you a good orientation of all the city has to offer. Each of the individual tour routes takes 60 to 90 minutes if you stay on the bus...but the hop on hop off facility enables you to visit any of the attractions along each route, such as the Arlington National Cemetery - the most hallowed burial ground of America's fallen military and one of the most visited tourist sites in Washington DC. Also located at Arlington are the Tomb of the Unknown, the Memorial Amphitheater and the Eternal Flame at the John F. Kennedy burial site.

The tours feature entertaining and informative narration. If you're new to Washington, one option to consider is to ride an entire loop to get a good feel for what you will want to go back and visit as you hop-off and hop-on at various stops on the loop. In a full day, you can make approximately 5-6 stops to visit many, but not all, of the hundreds of available attractions.

Please Note:

ADA compliant, wheelchair-accessible are available with advance notice. Your E-Ticket will provide instructions for making the necessary arrangements.

The specific routes for these tours may be changed due to weather, road closures or special events in Washington. During holiday periods, closure of roads and streets often results in service diversions and disruptions over which your tour supplier has not control, but they will do their best to ensure you have the opportunity to explore and enjoy Washington, DC. If your reservation is for a holiday period, please ask your guide or driver on the day of the tour for specific information regarding your tour.

Some federal facilities are closed on weekends and holidays; some require timed tickets resulting in extended waiting in line for tours. No timed tickets are included in the tour price.

    Everything was fast and simple.

Great to be able to hop on and hop off the bus. Having the option of a 2 day pass gave great value for money adn allowed us to explore most of the routes, including the boat tour.

Unfortunately for us, we booked this tour during the Cherry Blossom Festival. Just because of the very heavy traffic, we didn't get to enjoy as many stops on the tour as we would have liked. I think that, during a less busy time of year, that this method of seeing D.C. is about as good as it gets. We really liked not being tied to a fixed tour schedule, so we could spend time where we wanted. I have to say the drivers and other employees were helpful and courteous and did their best under very crowded circumstances.

I arranged for the Open-Top Double Decker Bus Tour for my parents when they came to visit, and it was fantastic. The weather cooperated, so it was lovely and it was the easiest and best way to see all the monuments and travel between them without needing to worry about taxis or the metro. It was a blast.

  • 5 / 5
Would recommend this tour to others

  • 4 / 5
Most drivers were nice and friendly but there are two who were not so friendly and would rush people in or did not stop to pick up more passengers.

  • 5 / 5
Excellent tour and your personnel. I will highly recommend anyone going to D.C. to use your tour.\n\nFred K

I & my wife could not come up with any way to improve the tours. We would recommend the tours to others.

Everything went well until we were ready to go back to our parking spot. We had to wait for over an hour for a return bus....

  • 5 / 5
My daughter and I used this. It was very convenient and the drivers were very courteous. The buses run anywhere you might want to go. I just wish we had used it earlier this trip so that we could have toured for two days.

  • 5 / 5
The only way to go if you are a first time visitor to the DC area.

I used the service for a vacation tour with my grandson. I am recommending this to friends who are doing the same with their grandchildren.

  • 1 / 5
Not enough info was provided to us. Wait for the bus was very long and many times bus was parked for nearly 1/2 hour. Would not recommend this to anyone.

  • 4 / 5
We toured and also traveled to other activities. Also rode the evening tour.

Great tours and wonderful people. We loved the 2 days were rode!

  • 3 / 5
I would not recommend this tour bus unless you could be guaranteed that there would be a bus to pick you up within a reasonable amount of time.

  • 4 / 5
The tour could have been improved by using a clearer map. We had difficulty figuring out where to hop on and off in order to maximize our time and visit the sites we wished to see. The drivers were very helpful in that regard

No voy a hacer uso seguido, vivo en Argentina, el otro extremo del mundo. \nSi, voy a recomerdarlo a todos aquellos que e que viajen, he guardado la información

As I tried to say already!!! There was an illness in the family and we were unable to go on the trip. This company would not give us a refund. Every other place I paid in advance gave us a refund. I an not happy!

  • 4 / 5
The bus service was generally good, and a convenient way to travel to the essential DC sites. We did have an occasional problem with excessively full buses, and having to wait for the next scheduled bus.

  • 4 / 5
The buses were clean and efficient but if I had to listen to the march that played loud and endlessly another minute I'd leap off the second floor of the bus into the oncoming traffic.\n\nTURN IT AND TONE IT DOWN !!!

  • 4 / 5
    Definately recommended

  • 4 / 5
Great for those wanting an overview. Bus service convenient, esp with kids.

I definitely recommend the Hop-On-Hop-off bus to anyone wanting to tour D.C. They have air conditioning - which is really great for those of us who do not care to be out in open top area.

  • 5 / 5
    helpful\nrrecommend to everyone

  • 5 / 5
    We had a great expierance.

  • 3 / 5
Of all the Open Top buses I have been on by far the weakest tour guides. The only good guide was an older gentleman on the Georgetown route.

  • 5 / 5
We never had to wait for a bus very long when were ready to hop back on.

  • 3 / 5
I would not use the service again nor recommend it to anyone.

We ABSOLUTELY loved the Double-Decker Bus Tour of Washington DC. We have recommended it to many of our friends!!!!

  • 3 / 5
    it is OK

  • 5 / 5
Wonderful for singles and family groups alike.\n

  • 5 / 5
Our group really enjoyed seeing the sights from the top of the bus. A really unique experience.

  • 5 / 5
We enjoying using the 2-day pass we purchased to see many sights in and around Washington DC we probbly wouldn't have seen if we hadn't purchased this, as it was easy to get to places we wanted to see. We were impressed by the drivers who told us all about the sights we passed and even paused for us to take pictures at various places, especially with the bus being double decker (bring sunscreen!). The walking tour was informative and entertaining and wasn't too long...just perfect, we only had time for one, although we wanted to be able to catch the other one, also. The boat ride included was fun and relaxing. I would purchase the 2-day (or maybe even a 3-day, if available) tour again if I visited Washington DC, since it was easily accessible to all the places we wanted to go see. I wished we had more time to stay and tour more sights. I would get up earlier next time so there would be more time to tour, as we started off each day rather lazily.

  • 4 / 5
The quality and information given on the bus were very interesting and good.

  • 4 / 5
It was informative. City closed down thanks to politicians. Driver left us off at the green line at 5:15. We were waiting for the next trolley to cathedral. A shuttle pulled up at 5:30 and said he was the last; their were no more trolleys. We asked how we were to get back and he said he would take us to metro. When he found out we were leaving next day and had never seen the cathedral, he was awesome and took us passed it and gave us history as he went. He saved us from total confusion and being lost, to a great ending of our day.

  • 4 / 5
I would recommend for a type of tour as you can personalize your stops and stay as long as you like. Too bad you cannot take any food or drink onto the bus.

  • 4 / 5
Guide on a later riding was excellent, Her personality added much.

  • 5 / 5
    Excellent tour

  • 4 / 5
I'd recommend Hop On Hop Off tours to everyone wanting to sightsee a new city. Easy transportation and reasonable fare for two days.

  • 4 / 5
The tour was very good; informative and fun. The buses ran exactly on time. My one issue is that when I had questions prior to booking and called customer service, I was directed to leave a message, but never received a return call.
