When Pierre Charles L'Enfant gazed northward along the banks of the Potomac River in 1791, he envisioned a "pedestal waiting for a monument." Since that day, Washington DC has evolved into a fascinating, lively city. From its celebrated symbols of patriotism to its undiscovered neighborhoods, the sights and sounds of the U.S. capital city inspire millions of visitors every year.
Double decker tours offer the best tourist experience in Washington DC. Riding the double decker buses, you will be able to have the most visible sights of famous places like Union Station, the US Capitol building, the White House, Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, Roosevelt Memorial, World War II Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, Korean War Memorial, National Cathedral, Air & Space Museum (and any of 17 other amazing museums - some with free entrance from the Smithsonian Foundation).
Your hop on hop off tickets are valid for either 24 or 48 hours - whichever you purchase - giving you a good orientation of all the city has to offer. Each of the individual tour routes takes 60 to 90 minutes if you stay on the bus...but the hop on hop off facility enables you to visit any of the attractions along each route, such as the Arlington National Cemetery - the most hallowed burial ground of America's fallen military and one of the most visited tourist sites in Washington DC. Also located at Arlington are the Tomb of the Unknown, the Memorial Amphiteatre and the Eternal Flame at the John F. Kennedy burial site.
The tours feature entertaining and informative narration. If you're new to Washington, one option to consider is to ride an entire loop to get a good feel for what you will want to go back and visit as you hop-off and hop-on at various stops on the loop. In a full day, you can make approximately 5-6 stops to visit many, but not all, of the hundreds of available attractions.
PLEASE NOTE
All buses are wheelchair-accessible.
The specific routes for these tours may be changed due to weather, road closures or special events in Washington. During holiday periods, closure of roads and streets often results in service diversions and disruptions over which your tour supplier has not control, but they will do their best to ensure you have the opportunity to explore and enjoy Washington, DC. If your reservation is for a holiday period, please ask your guide or driver on the day of the tour for specific information regarding your tour.
Some federal facilities are closed on weekends and holidays; some require timed tickets resulting in extended waiting in line for tours. No timed tickets are included in the tour price.
Harbor Cruise
The 50-minute Harbor Cruise departs from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm (hourly). This option is only available Mid-April through Mid-October and is only included when you purchase the 48-hour option.
